Client spotlight: Acetech Metals

MPG client spotlight - Acetech Metals

Established in 1998, Acetech Metals is a scrap metal recycling company that operates across a number of sectors.

The firm’s processing and supply clients include British Steel in Scunthorpe, where it has a number of embedded operations. In addition, the company has extensive sourcing networks involving all the major national waste management companies, as well as a wide network of merchant scrap producers.

In our latest client spotlight, we chatted to Ian Bissett – contracts manager from Acetech Metals – asking him 10 key questions about what it’s like working with MPG…

1) Describe your business and what it does in one paragraph:

Acetech Metals is a scrap metal recycling company that has a number of integrated operations within the steelworks at Scunthorpe. We also have a permitted scrap processing facility in Scunthorpe, where we receive and process a wide range of scrap metals, which are then sold on to both UK and export markets.

2) When did you start working with MPG?

I first started working with MPG in my previous role as operations director at a large waste management company in West Yorkshire.

When we secured the Scunthorpe site and applied for a permit from the Environment Agency (EA), it was an easy decision to engage the services of MPG to assist with the process. MPG is now acting on our behalf for some further EA permitting and local authority planning initiatives.

3) Why did you reach out to the team? And how did the firm help you with your project?

We know that MPG has extensive experience in the sector, and we needed the team’s help with the initial permit application for the site. In addition, we have some more complex aspects of the operation to develop, and MPG is working with us in pursuit of these.

4) Why did you choose MPG as your environmental consultancy partner of choice?

Having worked with the team previously in another company, and having had a positive experience, we know we can trust them to carry out the job well. Therefore, it made sense to engage them in subsequent projects with my current employer.

5) Describe what it’s like working with MPG in three words:

Easy, helpful, and successful.

6) What is one of the biggest challenges when operating as a contracts manager?

Blending the daily commercial, compliance, and operational challenges of the company.

7) And what is the best thing about working in the recycling industry?

Without a doubt, it’s helping the environment. By working in the recycling sector, you play a vital role in recovering and maximising the resource potential of the planet’s materials, and ensuring they are treated as a valuable ‘resource’ instead of ‘waste’.

8) When it comes to your organisation, why do clients choose Acetech Metals over your competitors?

We are approachable, flexible, responsible, and easy to get on with.

9) What advice would you give to businesses looking to appoint an environmental consultancy partner?

Choose MPG – the company has a rich heritage within the sector and is our trusted partner for all our planning and permitting projects.

10) Does your company have any exciting plans in the pipeline over the next 12 months?

Yes, but they cannot be revealed yet – watch this space…
